Higher-Welfare Pet Food Initiative
Most pet food in the U.S. is made from animals raised on factory farms, even though pet owners are increasingly concerned about farm animal welfare and would prefer more humane options.
In a 2023 survey [PDF], 87% of pet food shoppers reported they would be likely to switch to another pet food brand if they knew the animal ingredients were sourced with more care.
In response, the ASPCA is working with progressive pet food brands to develop sourcing policies and standards that improve the lives of animals and offer better options for pet owners.
