Pit Bull Facts You Probably Didn’t Know
One of our favorite days of the year, National Pit Bull Awareness Day, is just days away! We’re so excited that we wanted to start our celebrations a little early with our devoted Guardians! In honor of this paw-liday, we wanted to take some time to clarify some little-known facts about pit bulls. You may think you know everything about these pups, but we bet you didn’t know this!
1. Their smile could upstage any human's!
2. But so can their puppy dog eyes—especially when they don’t want to come in from playing in the snow.
3. Some want to do everything you do.
4. While others couldn’t care less—all they want is a belly rub!
5. Some pit bulls are all about people, stopping to say “Good Morning” and shake everyone’s paw.
6. While others are all about play, they don’t even stop for the photo opp!
7. They’re really good at guilting you into treats.
8. And cuddles!
9. And they give the best slobbery pittie kisses!
10. But most importantly, they have a heart made of pure love and are just looking for someone to give it to!
If you’re not into loveable, playful and kiss-giving pups, then stay away from these pitties! Often misrepresented and mislabeled, pit bulls get a bad reputation, when really, they make amazing companions like any other dog! It is important to remember that each individual dog of any breed has their own needs and personalities—it’s all about finding the right fit for you. If you go in with an open mind and open heart, then you just may have found your new best friend.
Not only is it National Pit Bull Awareness Day, but the entire month of October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month! This month you can give a deserving dog a second chance and a loving home by adopting—or temporarily fostering! You can find the right pup at a shelter near you or through the ASPCA in Weaverville, North Carolina, or Columbus, Ohio,! If you live in the tri-state area, you can find lovable pits and more at the ASPCA Adoption Center or visit our friends at Animal Care Centers of NYC to meet even more four-legged friends looking for home.
