Photos: Update on Nearly 500 Animals Assisted After Tornado Devastation
Two weeks ago, we mobilized our disaster response teams to assist Kentucky Humane Society and provide critical support for animals impacted by the devastating tornadoes that swept through the Southeast and Midwest.
ASPCA responders worked around-the-clock to safely evacuate and transport homeless, unowned animals out of the impacted areas so that Kentucky-based shelters could make room for displaced pets.
In addition to relocation efforts, the ASPCA assisted with emergency sheltering, providing medical and behavioral treatment for displaced, homeless animals.
“These animals are getting lots of love and attention from our dedicated team of professional animal caretakers and behavior experts,” said Mary Sarah Fairweather, Vice President of the ASPCA Cruelty Recovery Center. “Even throughout the holidays and on weekends, our work never ends—we’re always here for the animals who need us most.”
At our emergency shelter, homeless animals all receive daily enrichment, including outdoor walks and play time with other dogs, as well as medical care before they’re made available for adoption.
The ASPCA also helped distribute much-needed pet food and supplies to assist pet owners impacted by the tornado in Bowling Green.
In total, the ASPCA helped nearly 500 cats and dogs, and we continue to provide daily care for animals relocated to the ASPCA emergency shelter until they can be made available for adoption through our network of rescue partners and shelters.
