ASPCA Proudly Joins the 2025 Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade

October 21, 2025

Many shelters in New York City and across the country are at capacity and animals, especially dogs, are often staying longer in their care before being adopted. This year, the Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade is stepping up with a new pet adoption awareness initiative, and you can learn more at nydogparade.org.

That’s why the ASPCA is proud to have joined this year’s Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade during Adopt a Shelter Dog Month! We’re grateful to everyone who helped to make this event possible as the parade returned to the East Village for its 35th year organized by New York Dog Parade.

On Sunday, October 19, we marched alongside community organizations with our canine grand marshal and ASPCA Adoption Center resident, Brunson, to raise awareness about dog adoption.

Brunson, who donned his best basketball costume, is currently available for adoption and was thrilled to be selected as one of the Parade Grand Marshals! He loved meeting and greeting all of his new friends.

Brunson is a 2-year-old sweetheart with big soulful eyes who doesn’t just love people: he leans into that love, literally. The moment you start petting him, he gently presses his body. He’s a tenderhearted boy who is always ready to offer affection, attention and cuddles.

When it comes to “trick or treat,” Brunson is a known treat enthusiast, which made him perfect for this seasonal parade. Whether you want to teach him a trick, get his attention, or win his heart forever, treats are the way to go. In addition to pets and treats, Brunson is a big fan of walks where he can sniff his surroundings.

Brunson is the perfect blend of playful and snuggly and is happy to be by your side, whether you are strolling through the neighborhood or curled up on the couch. Visit his profile to learn more about adopting him!

Welcoming a dog into a loving home — whether through adoption or fostering — not only transforms that animal’s life but also frees up resources to help other animals in need.

If this event inspires you to adopt or foster a dog yourself, learn more about available animals from Pup Starz and Social Tees on the parade’s website, or visit ASPCA.org/therescueeffect for information on our national adoption campaign and how you can get involved.
