ASPCA Assists with Suspected Dogfighting Case in South Carolina
At the request of Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, the ASPCA recently assisted with a suspected dogfighting case involving 10 dogs, including one puppy, removed from a property in Pelzer, South Carolina.
Upon arrival on scene, law enforcement discovered dogfighting paraphernalia, including weighted collars, heavy chains and a treadmill. Some dogs were also observed with wounds and dehydration.
During these efforts, we supported the transport of the animals to an ASPCA recovery facility where they will receive medical and behavioral evaluations, care and enrichment. We are also assisting with evidence collection, legal and investigative assistance and forensic exams.
“The ASPCA is committed to working alongside law enforcement and other animal welfare agencies to bring dogfighting to an end by providing critical case support and consultation and caring for suspected victims through specialized behavioral and medical treatment,” said Teresa Ladner, vice president of ASPCA Criminal Practice & Investigations. “We commend all agencies involved in this case, including the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office and SLED, for pursuing justice for these animals and ensuring they receive much-needed care."
