From October 11-14, 2023, the ASPCA Right Horse program will return to Lexington, Kentucky, for the second annual adoption event at the Retired Racehorse Project’s Thoroughbred Makeover. This fun event both brings needed visibility to equine adoption and helps horses find homes. Twelve adoptable Thoroughbreds from five different ASPCA Right Horse Partners will be there; ranging from recently retired racehorses to older Thoroughbreds who have already been retrained for a new home.

The Thoroughbred Makeover is a unique festival that celebrates the Thoroughbred racehorse. The Makeover is a showcase event for hundreds of horse trainers who’ve spent the year retraining retired racehorses for a new career. The competition highlights the incredible athleticism and versatility of the Thoroughbred while also providing avenues for the retiring racehorses to find new homes as family, competition and riding horses. During the makeover, the trainers compete in 10 different events that range from polo to show jumping.

Most events at the Thoroughbred Makeover are free and open to the public. Plan your visit and meet the adoptable horses October 11-14.

Meet the 12 Right Horses available for adoption at the Makeover!

The adoption event, made possible by a grant from the ASPCA, will be held in Barn Five by the Makeover Marketplace arena. The ASPCA team will be on hand alongside our Partner organizations to introduce the horses to visitors, help visitors handle and/or test ride horses, answer questions about adoption and help adopters find their right horse.
