Veterinary Medical Education
The ASPCA recognizes that animals must be used to properly train veterinary students. However, the ASPCA believes that healthy animals need not be killed for this purpose. Instead, guardians who have euthanized their companions for humane reasons might donate their bodies for this educational purpose. Also, surgery could be taught using animals who will benefit from the procedure, such as dogs and cats from local humane societies, who would be spayed or neutered, then returned to the shelter for adoption.
