ASPCA Winds Down Disaster Response as Pets Are Reunited with Families in Arkansas
At the request of the Arkansas Agriculture Department and Faulkner County Office of Emergency Management, we are winding down our operations as we work to reunite pets with their families and find placement for a small number of stray animals displaced by the severe flooding. Families like Cindy, Ben and their pets Peanut and Lucy. During the flooding, Cindy and Ben had to evacuate from their home, and they needed a safe shelter for their dogs. Luckily, the ASPCA was ready to assist.
One-year-old Peanut and 14-year-old Lucy spent a whole week at the ASPCA temporary shelter where they got a little TLC before heading back home with Cindy and Ben for some well-deserved treats and affection.
“We arrived to help Faulkner County with severe flooding in Arkansas,” says Tim Perciful, ASPCA Disaster Response Manager, who adds that caring for displaced animals at our temporary shelter goes beyond just fresh food and water. “Some people had to leave their animals here because their homes were flooded. Part of our responsibility here is to give food and water to these animals, but also to give them regular walks and to make them as comfortable as they can be while they’re here at the emergency shelter.”
Now that the flooding has subsided and the water levels are lowering, pets continue to be reunited with their families every day.
